Overview

I started the firm in 2024 after being in large law firms in Hartford and New Haven, CT for over 35 years. While in those firms I learned the ins and outs of state and federal environmental regulations; I tried environmental cases; I handled administrative hearings; and I worked with the highest caliber of attorneys, consultants and in-house environmental managers on regulatory compliance and environmental transactions.

Eventually I became tired of the administrative burdens of large private practice and realized that I could provide the same high-quality services to my business clients with more efficiency and better pricing if I worked independently. And thus, the Law Office of John Bashaw, LLC d/b/a Environmental Legal Services, was born.

About John Bashaw

I apply my decades of experience to work on the environmental issues in your deal; and to advise you on environmental compliance. I interface with regulators and consultants on your behalf and I negotiate and draft environmental contracts and agreements. While I refer the real estate, corporate and trial work to other experienced counsel, I provide those attorneys with the specific environmental support they need to complete their tasks.

It does not matter if your deal or company is small or large. I have worked with Fortune 100 companies and in-house environmental teams, and I have worked with small family-owned LLCs. The environmental risks are the same and each client receives the same high quality service and personal attention.

Resume Overview

In 1982 I graduated from The University of Vermont with a B.S. degree in Wildlife Biology and I went on to do graduate work in Wildlife Management at The University of Maine at Orono.  In 1984 I decided to apply my natural resources training to the study of law and in 1987 I graduated magna cum laude from The Vermont Law School.

Since then I have worked in private practice at Day Pitney in Hartford, CT, Brenner Saltzman & Wallman in New Haven, and most recently at Reid and Riege in Hartford where I chaired the litigation department. My legal work has focused exclusively on the application of environmental laws and regulations to a wide range of issues affecting my business clients.
